Aviation enthusiasts visiting Tokyo can now book a stay in a hotel room with a Boeing 737-800 flight simulator installed close to the bed.
The Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu, a hotel near Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport, has opened a room with a flight simulator inspired by the Boeing 737 cockpit.
Dubbed “Superior Cockpit Room”, guests can learn to manoeuvre the simulator in a 90-minute flying session under the guidance of an instructor, including a former captain familiar with the equipment, for 30,000 Yen ($276).
They can choose to book the room for the night for an additional 25,300 Yen ($233); however, guests staying for a night in the twin bed room can’t sit in the pilot’s seat or “touch the instruments”, according to the hotel. A “transparent acrylic board” will separate the cockpit from the room.
The flight simulating experience is modelled after a flight from Haneda Airport to Itami Airport (also known as Osaka International Airport). The screens show scenery that would be seen along this route.
It cost about 10 million yen ($92,000) to install the simulator in the room, a spokesperson from the hotel told CNN. It was installed to celebrate the hotel’s 15th anniversary.
The “Superior Cockpit Room” was made available for booking on July 18.
